Richard Wilson

My pots reflect the spontaneity of the slipware tradition of decorating with coloured clays on semi-dry pots. Colours are applied in different ways, with brushes, sponges and slip trailers, gradually building bold patterns around the pots for a loose, abstract effect.

I draw inspiration from the work of the Impressionists , they invite one into their paintings through colour and dance – as well as more contemporary colourists like Howard Hodgkin with his spontaneous use of colour and patterns. But my background influence is the pattern and design found in folk art and ceramics from eastern Europe.
