The designs for my work are developed on the Llyn Peninsula where I record the landscape in a variety of media.
I fire both oxidation and reduction, drawing on Eastern ceramic traditions and construction techniques. Glazes, and forms from Song China and brush decoration from Japan and Korea.
I pursue fluid brushwork, refining my designs to a spontaneous simplicity. I feel pattern should work in harmony with the form. I make slip from local clay and found scrap iron. I grind and mix this pigment myself. This produces a rich variation in colour and brush stroke.
